IT MAY seem like this week’s column is the same old complaints about the lack of grass-cutting across not only in my Kilpatrick ward but across pockets of the local authority area.

Following lots of complaints – and I mean lots – regarding the state of Goldenhill Park, in particular, I was delighted that the leader of the council and the chief executive are stepping in to address this dereliction in one of our finest parks.

The leader of the council has agreed to visit Goldenhill Park to see at first-hand what many constituents of Douglas McAllister and myself are complaining about – and quite rightly so.

Hopefully, these interventions will now address the complaints; we watch and see.

On a more positive note, Holm Park Community Football Academy – which is home to both of our local Junior football teams, Yoker Athletic and Clydebank FC – has shown a fantastic upsurge in usage since it was officially handed over to me and my fellow directors in July of this year.

More than 300 boys, girls and adults are using this community facility and we are delighted to say that more games of football have been played at this facility – along with training nights – over the last two months than were played on the old grass pitch in 18 months.

Work continues to fully upgrade the pavilion and bring in a new covered terracing enclosure and this should be completed within the next few weeks.

As the fully redeveloped park was intended for predominantly community usage, I am delighted that we are able to host a charity tribute match on Sunday, September 29.

It has been organised to raise funds for a couple of local charities in memory of two of the town’s young men, Aaron Keenan and Dom Brown, who tragically lost their lives at a very young age.

Further details of this match will be posted on social media and via the Clydebank Post.

My thanks to my fellow directors who had no hesitation in offering this free let and usage of the facility for a very worthwhile cause – I am sure that many of our fellow townsfolk will make this event a great success. I might even get my boots on.
