I HOPE that everyone is enjoying the summer period, which is sometimes fraught for parents and pupils as they get ready for new journeys ahead as many transition from primary to secondary school or await exam results.

After a short break with the family, and although the council is in recess, I have been delighted with the progress of the newly redeveloped Holm Park and the future that this huge investment – £750k allocated in 2013 – will bring to the Clydebank area.

The first match was played last Saturday afternoon between the two local Junior teams, Clydebank and Yoker Athletic, and I would personally like to thank the teams of volunteers who worked tirelessly painting the pavilion, the walls, and generally tidying up the terracing areas.

I personally gave thanks to the directors, fans and playing staff of both clubs for sharing the vision that Councillor Douglas McAllister and I had as they now see the fruits of their labour.

Special thanks to Michelle Lynn and Marie Haworth of West Dunbartonshire Council asset management team on behalf of all who are involved with Holm Park Community Football Academy Limited for the superb effort they made and all the work undertaken to allow the pitch and its environs to be ready for the match last Saturday.

My personal thanks too go to both ladies for often going above and beyond and for finding solutions for some of the issues that arose.

Finally, thanks also go to Barry “the Cat” Jenkins, the professional graffiti artist who provided a stunning mural beside both turnstiles. A picture of the mural is published on page three of the Clydebank Post as part of their coverage of the game and associated works.

We are working on the community lets for the local football teams and will be in a position shortly to accommodate these teams across a wide age range – from under-8s right up to over-35s – to settle into their new community sports facility.

Work continues with the pavilion refurbishment as part of phase two and that facility should be available over the coming weeks, as well as the new covered area for parents and supporters to use – it is Scotland after all and the sun will soon disappear.
