Clydebank train station ticket office will NOT be closed, ScotRail has announced.

The rail provider revealed in January its plans to close the office at Clydebank as well as cut the opening hours at the Dalmuir office ahead of a public consultation on the matter.

And, following the feedback received and input from independent watchdog Transport Focus, who organised the consultation, ScotRail has now backed down on the planned closure and will leave it alone for the next two years at least.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail's head of customer operations, said: “The changes we propose to make as a result of the public consultation demonstrate we are listening to our customers and creating an environment that improves safety, customer support, and the helpfulness of staff.

“The safety, comfort and wellbeing of our customers is a top priority, and we will always listen to what passengers and people who use our stations have to say.

“We believe this proposal takes into account most of the issues we identified as important in our original plan as well as the views of the public.

“We are on course to deliver a railway that is modern, safe, and reliable which will serve customers even better in the future.”

As well as the local victory for the Clydebank station, Dalmuir's opening hours will also remain the same, operating until midnight instead of the proposed 7pm.

Speaking in the Post last week, Clydebank MSP Marie McNair said: "My strong and fundamental opposition to ScotRail’s position is detailed loud and clear to them."
