MORE residents of Dalmuir high flats have raised concerns about the conditions of their homes with housing officers.

Last week we reported on a mum at Burnside Court who said there had been a pest infestation at the building.

Now two more women have brought forward fears about bug problems as well as damp and the safety of residents.

Stacey, 25, who asked not to print her last name, said her housing officer would not visit the property and that the bug infestations were a result of her living conditions.

She told the Post: “I also called the environmental health team a few months back and they had scheduled to visit, however on the day they were supposed to attend they cancelled because they were no longer carrying out domestic visits.

“Because of the lack of support, I’ve now had to bring in a private company three times and they have charged me over £400 all in, as well as buying silicon guns to close up and holes in the skirting boards and toilet.”

The private company told the mum-of-one that there was an issue with the water pipes. But the bugs were back within a matter of days.

Council officials said they attended the property but were refused entry. A spokeswoman said: “We will continue to work with the tenant to gain entry to the premises and arrange any necessary works. All tenants can access pest control services free of charge through the environmental health team.”

Another tenant, Mandy Finnegan, said her flat is ridden with dampness and the close has a stench of urine, particularly in the stairwell.

The 39-year-old, who has lived at the property for 10 years, said a recent incident also means she won’t leave her flat without her partner and his dog.

Mandy said: “I woke at around 2am to people shouting in the close, I didn’t want to get up because I was home alone and didn’t know who was involved.

“There are usually people with a drink in them, or people who have been taking all sorts going to and from the flats so I was scared when it all kicked off outside my door.

“The police officer told me to go back inside and not leave my flat for the time being, I was absolutely petrified.”

The council spokeswoman said: “We are sorry this tenant is unhappy. Burnside Court is well maintained by an on-site caretaker and is inspected frequently, including out of hours, to ensure it remains a safe and clean environment.

“As soon as this tenant notified us of her concern about dampness, we arranged for an officer to attend to carry out an inspection which is due to take place this week.

“We will continue to support and assist the tenant with this and her request for rehousing.”
