CLYDEBANK Musical Society has issued a positive message to its fans after the coronavirus outbreak drew the curtain on its upcoming production 9 to 5: The Musical.

The theatre group, which has in the past entertained Bankies with sold out performances of Our House and Crafty Affair, was due to stage the smash-hit show, with original music from Dolly Parton, last month, at Clydebank Town Hall.

However, cast, crew and audience alike were left disappointed when the COVID-19 pandemic closed doors on many groups all across the country.

A statement on the musical society's Facebook page stated: "We have done as much as we could to protect our society; to many of our members it is a second family.

"Therefore, we have come to a unanimous decision to postpone until further notice."

Andy MacQueen, Clydebank Musical Society chairman, opened up on the heartbreaking decision to pull the show.

He told the Post: "It was a double-edged sword, making the decision. It led to a big disappointment but also at the same we don't want to be responsible for adding to the situation.

"We don't want to be responsible for anyone's health deterioration.

"Our audience tend to be older so we're always trying to sell to an older audience, it was difficult to deal with."

But the theatre group has an exciting message for all of its fans who were left disappointed by the show's cancellation.

"The challenge we see now is that there will be a period of uncertainty, we can't plan anymore," Andy said.

"However, we've been working behind the scenes to get things moving. We're working to reschedule. The show must go on.

"The staff at Clydebank Town Hall have been fantastic throughout it all, and we've got the same stage and lighting guys booked for later in the year.

"The whole thing has galvanised the cast and hopefully it will galvanise the wider community. We're raring to go; everyone is up for the challenge."
