A WOMAN who lived independently until she was 99 has marked her 100th birthday.
Minnie Campbell, who turned 100 on Friday, has only been living at Drumchapel’s Almond View Care Home for a year.
The pensioner lived independently until she suffered a bad fall.
Minnie was born in Edinburgh and lived in Quarriers Children Home until she left at the age of 14.
She went on to work in the army as a cook at the beginning of World War II. Once the war came to an end, Minnie obtained employment as a nanny, before moving on to become a home help with Glasgow City Council, before she retired at the age of 70.

Peter Cook, 75, and a friend of the centenarian, who has known her for around 40 years, told the Post: “Minnie is great for her age. She lived on her own up until she was 99, she’s very independent and strong minded.
“Minnie can still do a lot of things herself. She always speaks about her time in the army, and says it was the best time of her life. She can tell you all the stories.”
Despite clocking 100 years, Minnie still likes to walk, read and paint and loved travelling to Canada and Venice.
