RESIDENTS of West Dunbartonshire turned out to pay their respects to the sacrifice of service personnel last weekend.
As part of celebrations for Armed Forces Day, a parade made up of veterans groups, cadets and scouts marched through Dumbarton, leaving off from Dumbarton Health Centre on Station Road, and led by the Balaklava Pipes and Drums band.
A salute was performed by dignitaries, including James Leatherby RN, the deputy lieutenant of Dunbartonshire and Provost William Hendrie.
A short service was then conducted, led by Reverend Ian Johnson of Dumbarton Riverside Church, West Kirk and St Andrew’s Church, inside the offices of the council on Church Street.

Provost Hendrie said: “This event was a great opportunity to recognise the bravery and dedication of the armed forces personnel in our area and it was humbling to be among them.
“I was delighted to see such a great show of support from West Dunbartonshire residents who turned out to show how much they value the important work these men and women do on a daily basis.”
As part of the celebrations, a framed map of Dunbartonshire from 1823 was presented to the council by James Murie.
The commemorations formed part of a worldwide project to remember those who serve, and have served their country through membership of the armed forces.
