THE Clydebank and Erskine Marie Curie fundraising group celebrated their first year last week.

Members met up to mark one year of the local group that fundraise for the charity who help those with a terminal illness.

Their first year was described as “fantastic” after raising more than £6,000.

Collections were held throughout the year as well as an ABBA night, with a Shania Twain tribute night lined up in plans for next year.

Derek McIlwraith, chairperson of the group, said: “I have had both a personal and professional experience of Marie Curie as my gran was nursed by Marie Curie nurses, and I worked as one for seven years.

Struggling families in Clydebank to get £10 per week for each child

“I have seen first-hand the difference the nursing service makes to patients and their families. I have fundraised for Marie Curie since 2007 and to know the difference I am making to patients and families touches my heart.

“Marie Curie is such a vital charity and the local support from Clydebank, Erskine and surrounding areas has been amazing.”

All money raised by the group will help Marie Curie provide expert care, guidance and support to help people with a terminal illness, and their families, make the most from the time they have left.

Marie Curie nurses work night and day, in people’s homes providing care and vital emotional support.
