A CLYDEBANK resident has hit out at the council for failing to fix the “waterfall-like” leak in his flat.

Council tenant David Jackson, who lives on Whitecrook Street, has been living with the problem since June last year when the ceiling collapsed above his window.

He says that the living room is now unusable and while the council eventually came out to attempt repairs in December, David claims this only made the situation worse.

The 45-year-old told the Post: “It has been raining in my house and the council aren’t doing anything about it and are not interested in fixing it.

“It’s not just a wee bit, it’s like a waterfall coming through the roof.

“It took the council six months to get a specialist out.

“They never went up until December to investigate where the water was coming in, and they said it was through the gutters.

“They did a couple of repairs then took the scaffolding down and they never came back to check.

“It didn’t rain for three weeks so I didn’t know if stopped, but around January 14 it poured down.

“It’s now worse than what it was before they fixed it.

“It’s pouring down the building and pouring down in my house.”

David now fears that the roof might collapse from all the water.

And he says that the worry of the leak is now having an adverse affect on his health.

David added: “It’s driving me crazy.

“It’s really getting on top of me and making me depressed and down. It’s really affecting me health wise.

“There’s asbestos roofing and I’m scared that will come down.

“I am so scared that’s going to collapse.

“I’ve phoned the housing officer and asked her to get to the repairs, but she has not got back to me in a month. I’m getting nowhere with the council.

“It’s getting ridiculous, how long do you have to wait? Surely there is a timeline for a repair to a house.

“People can’t be allowed to live like this.

In response to David’s situation, a spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council told the Post: “We are sorry to hear that Mr Jackson is unhappy with the service he has received.

“Our officers have assessed the property and it has now been referred for specialist attention due to the nature of the repairs required.

“We will continue to offer support and assistance to Mr Jackson until this is resolved.”
