YOKER Athletic player/manager Steven Reilly admits his side are now looking over their shoulder in the Super League First Division after two defeats on the bounce.

Cumnock ran out 3-1 winners at Holm Park on Saturday, coming on the back of a 3-0 defeat for the Whe-Ho at Greenock.

The results leave Yoker two points above the drop zone, in an unforgiving league which sees four of the 14 teams relegated.

After a positive start to the season which raised expectations at Holm Park, Reilly is now eager to stop the slide down the table starting when Rutherglen Glencairn visit Holm Park on Saturday, 2pm kick-off.

He said: “Against Cumnock we were in the game and there was some pleasing aspects, at Greenock we weren’t at it. For 60 minutes we matched a good Cumnock team, the goals we lost were really poor on our behalf.

“We are looking to improve on last year’s position and be comfortably in this league.

“But with the squad we have and the start we had, my expectations went higher than maybe previous managers had.

“It’s consistency I’m looking for with a young squad.

“We are good enough to stay in this league but we need to look over our shoulder a bit now after losing these two games.”

Having taken himself out of the team of late, Reilly revealed he is considering restoring himself to the starting line-up as Yoker prepare for a hectic run-in.

He said: “Experience is what we need because we have a lot of games left. I’ll maybe need to look at the experienced guys we have to shore things up, myself included, to help the younger lads and guide them along a bit.”
