McGuire was on a high after winning his first professional fight last month and was due to fight at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on Saturday, October 17 but the show has been postponed until December 14.

Although McGuire wasn’t given an official reason for the delay he suspects it is due to the fighter at the top of the bill, David Brophy, getting a cut eye in his last bout.

Despite the setback McGuire still holds out hope that he can step into the ring before the December fight.

He said: “I’m absolutely gutted. I’m still training as normal but training isn’t the same when you don’t have something to reward yourself with at the end.

“If a promoter phones me and asks if I can fight whoever tomorrow, I’ll be there. That’s how you can get your chance in boxing, you can get a title shot because someone has to pull out so you always have to be ready.” It is now business as usual for McGuire until December or another fight comes up, but not knowing who he is next getting in the ring with doesn’t faze him, as his preperation remains consistent regardless of who he is faceing.

He said: “I just keep my preperation the same to be honest. Anything can happen in a fight, you can go in thinking a fighter is going to do certain things and then he fights totally different.

“All I do is train hard and try my best and if I do that I should beat most people that I face.”
