CLYDEBANK AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION THE CDBA David Syme Senior League restarted on Monday, August 4. With 12 games already played before the short summer break the remaining six league matches will extend until mid-September. Three out of the five matches were drawn leaving the top three league positions unchanged. Yarrow moved up to joint third with their win but congratulations must go to Yoker who won their first league match of the season. The full results from week 13 of the David Syme League were as follows: Singer 2 Dalmuir 2, Old Kilpatrick 2 Albion 2, Clydebank 2 Radnor Park 2, Yoker 4 Victoria Park 0 and Yarrow 4 Scotstounhill 0. The league positions are as follows: 1. Clydebank 35 points, 2. Dalmuir 31 points, 4= Radnor Park/Yarrow 29 points, 5= Albion/Old Kilpatrick 28 points. The week 14 fixtures were due to be played on Monday, August 11. The fixtures for week 15 games due to be played on Monday, August 18 are as follows: Yarrow v Yoker, Singer v Old Kilpatrick, Clydebank v Victoria Park, Albion v Scotstounhill and Radnor Park v Dalmuir.

The CDBA Seniors Top Three competition got underway on Tuesday, August 5 with the preliminary round ties. Each District Club is represented by three senior players who play singles in a sets format. The results were Scotstounhill 2 Victoria Park 1 and Albion 2 Old Kilpatrick 1. The quarter final matches were due to be played on Tuesday, August 12. The draw for the semi-final ties to be played on Tuesday, August 19 is: Scotstounhill or Albion v Yoker or Radnor Park (at Clydebank) and Singer or Yarrow v Dalmuir or Clydebank (at Old Kilpatrick). The final will be held at Yarrow B.C. on Sunday, August 24.

The CDBA League Cup week two matches were played on Friday, August 8. In Section A Clydebank stayed on top with a 10-4 victory over Singer. Radnor Park recovered from last week’s defeat with a comfortable win against Scotstounhill. Albion were not in action. In Section B Old Kilpatrick whitewashed Victoria Park and look favourites to qualify. However, Yarrow maintained their challenge by beating Dalmuir 8-6, Dalmuir losing bonus points for the second game in succession. The full results were: Section A – Clydebank 10 Singer 4, Radnor Park 12 Scotstounhill 2, Albion no game, Section B – Old Kilpatrick 14 Victoria Park 0, Yarrow 8 Dalmuir 6, Yoker no game. The CDBA Champion of Champions knockout competitions were due to commence on Monday, August 11 with the preliminary round ties. The CDBA Senior Fours Champion of Champions competition commences Thursday, August 14 (tomorrow) with the preliminary round games as follows: Radnor Park v Scotstounhill at Albion and Yarrow v Yoker at Victoria Park.

DISTRICT CLUB NEWS SCOTSTOUNHILL held their annual mixed pairs competition on Saturday, August 9. The competition winners were Diane and Charlie Steele who beat Alice Simpson and Andrew Livingstone in the final. Dalmuir B.C. hosted a balloted triples competition on Saturday, August 9 which included guests from Anniesland, Dumbarton, Westerton and Whitecrook. The competition was won by Derek Foster, Andy Boyle (both new members) and Ian MacDonald/Denis Durning who beat George Morton, John McInnes and Jim Rogers in a close final. The prizes were presented by President Sam Bonnar who also participated in the competition. Radnor Park held their annual Alex Wilson Pairs on Saturday. This year the winners were Jim Poustie and Alex Smith who prevailed over Graham Stewart and Jim MacDonald in the final.

DUMBARTONSHIRE BOWLING ASSOCIATION CONGRATULATIONS to Rock Bowling Club, Dumbarton, who won the DBA Top 10 trophy on Sunday, August 10. The Rock bowlers beat Kirkintilloch B.C. by 5-3 in the final which was played at Dumbarton B.C. at the second time of asking.

BOWLS SCOTLAND THE Bowls Scotland National Championships were played at the Northfield complex in Ayr between Tuesday 5 and Sunday, August 10 and there were mixed fortunes for local bowlers. Congratulations to Kevin Anderson of Dumbarton B.C. who won the National Gents Singles Championship beating Alan Gray (Eaglesham) in the final. This is a remarkable achievement given that Kevin still qualifies to play at under-25 level. Well done also to Callum Taggart from Old Kilpatrick, who plays for Hyndland B.C, winning the Gents Junior (under-25) Singles by beating Christopher Stein (Markinch) in the final. In the ladies junior singles Emma McIntyre of Dumbarton B.C. won through to the semi-finals before losing out to Falkirk B.C. The gents senior fours team from Radnor Park, skipped by Andy Chapman, didn’t fare so well losing out to Parkside B.C. in the first round. The Yarrow ladies suffered a similar fate in the ladies triples losing in the first round to Bishopbriggs B.C.
