CLYDEBANK AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION Congratulations to Clydebank Bowling Club on winning the CDBA League.

It went right down to the wire as expected with both Clydebank and Old Kilpatrick achieving the wins required in their final matches on Friday, July 4. Old Kilpatrick had an excellent 10-4 win over third placed Radnor Park, but Clydebank did not lose any of their games against Scotstounhill, winning by a 13-1 scoreline.

The full league results for week nine (final) matches were as follows: Clydebank 13 Scotstounhill 1, Old Kilpatrick 10 Radnor Park 4, Singer 7 Yoker 7, Dalmuir 12 Victoria Park 2 and Yarrow 10 Albion 4.

The final league positions are as follows: 1. Clydebank 94 points, 2. Old Kilpatrick 91 points, 3= Radnor Park/Singer 72 points, 5= Dalmuir/Yarrow 66 points, 7. Scotstounhill 54 points, 8. Yoker 48 points, 9. Albion 40 points, 10. Victoria Park 27 points.

The CDBA Top 10 competition starts on Friday, July 11 and the preliminary round ties are as follows: Victoria Park v Radnor Park at Dalmuir and Yarrow v Singer at Clydebank.

Holders Dalmuir received a bye into the quarter finals to be held the following week.

The CDBA Top Five competition commenced on Sunday, June 29.

The results of the preliminary round matches were as follows: Radnor Park 5 Old Kilpatrick 0 and Yoker 3 Dalmuir 2.

The quarter final fixtures were due to be played on Sunday, July 6 but the results are not yet available.

The David Syme Senior League week 11 matches were played on Monday, June 30.

Leaders Clydebank had a good home win against Albion and stay top.

The Dalmuir seniors move into second place with a comfortable home win over Old Kilpatrick, however, there are another five teams lined up behind them.

The full results of the week 11 games were: Victoria Park 2 Yarrow 2, Yoker 1 Scotstounhill 3, Singer 4 Radnor Park 0, Clydebank 3 Albion 1 and Dalmuir 4 Old Kilpatrick 0.

League positions after 11 matches are as follows: 1. Clydebank 31 points, 2. Dalmuir 27 points, 3. Radnor Park 25 points, 4. Albion 24 points, 5. Yarrow 23 points, 6= Old Kilpatrick/Singer 22 points.

The week 12 matches were due to be held on Monday, July 7.

The David Syme League takes a holiday break and will recommence on Monday, August 4.

This year the Senior bowlers take part in their own CDBA Top 10 competition after the Top nine played in past years was upgraded.

The format is identical to the Gents competition with each club putting out a singles, pairs, triples and fours.

The preliminary round matches due to take place on Monday, July 14 are: Scotstounhll v Yoker at Albion and Dalmuir v Radnor Park at Victoria Park.

The Adams Love Trophy will be played for tomorrow (Thursday) at Clydebank BC starting at 10am.

Holders Dalmuir (skipped by Gus McInnes) will be trying their best to retain the title.

DISTRICT CLUB NEWS Competitions scheduled for Saturday, July 12 at CDBA Clubs include: Albion – home friendly v Maryhill, Clydebank – Mixed Pairs, Dalmuir – Invitation Fours, Radnor Park – Home Friendly v Westerton, Singer – Tommy Summers Trophy, Yarrow – Select Mixed Triples.

GLASGOW BOWLING ASSOCIATION The Glasgow Bowling Association finals were held at Kingswood BC on Saturday, July 5.

Yarrow BC were the only District Club represented at the finals but they were competing in both the pairs and the fours.

There were mixed fortunes for the club as the rinks were beaten 16-12 by Garrowhill.

However, Michael Shields and Tony Cochrane had a great 17-14 victory over the home club in the pairs championship.

The Glasgow WBA champonships are ongoing and the finals will be held in August.

Yarrow are also in action next weekend after the recent semi-finals of the “Five Competitions” held at St Vincent BC.

In the Coronation Cup the Yarrow team of Robert Gardner, Stewart Currie, Bill Richardson and Archie Gosland were beaten 19-11 by Shettleston.

However, the Yarrow rink of David Bingham, John Williamson, Sandy McKie and Willie Drysdale won a close fought match 14-12 against North British and qualified for the Final of the Centenary Cup.

The finals of the five competitions will be held at Cathcart BC on Sunday, July 13.

DUMBARTONSHIRE BOWLING ASSOCIATION The DBA Top 10 competition East Area final was played on Thursday, July 3.

It proved to be a very close affair between Westerton and Kirkintilloch with both Clubs winning two matches.

However, Kirkintilloch prevailed with an overall four shot advantage and will contest the final against the winner from the West Area (final not yet staged).

The DBA Top 10 Final will take place at Dumbarton BC on Sunday, August 3.

The DBA under-45’s Trophy got underway last week and the result of the preliminary round tie was Singer 17 Radnor Park 14.

The District 3 semi-final fixtures for tonight (Wednesday) are as follows: Singer v Dalmuir at Clydebank and Westerton v Clydebank at Dalmuir.

BOWLS SCOTLAND COMPETITIONS The Scottish Cities and Counties Bowling Championship continued with the quarter final matches being played on Saturday, July 5.

The remaining local interest lay with Glasgow West who were up against a strong Lanarkshire South team.

With about two thirds of the match played the Glasgow team were leading, however, Lanarkshire South finished very strongly and eventually won 146-112.

The Andrew Hamilton semi-finals will be played on Saturday, July 12.

The Bowls Scotland National Championships will be played at Northfield starting on Tuesday, August 5.

The championships were moved back from their normal time to avoid clashing with the Commonwealth Games.

The Gents and Ladies representatives from District 11 have been noted in previous columns.

Congratulations to Christine Sinclair, Marylin Wilkie and Christine Condy (Yarrow BC) who won the District 23 Ladies Triples Final and also qualify for Northfield.
