CLYDEBANK AND DISTRICT BOWLING ASSOCIATION The remaining CDBA Clubs held their green openings at the weekend. Yarrow B.C. held their Opening Night on Friday, April 11 with President Ricky McDougall in charge of proceedings. On Saturday, April 12, Scotstounhill B.C. held their Opening Day with President Willie Duff carrying out the annual ceremony. Clydebank B.C. President Joe Campbell had supervised the Opening of their green last Saturday, April 11. On the same day, the Yoker B.C. green was opened by President Gary Earl’s wife Fiona assisted by daughter Jessica.

There are quite a number of games on this coming weekend at the CDBA clubs.

On Friday, April 18 Old Kilpatrick are hosting an Internal Challenge match whilst Dalmuir are holding a Gents Sweep/League Trial game.

Singer are hosting the Tennant’s Balloted Pairs on Saturday, April 12, which is the District’s first all day competition of the year. The tournament starts at 10am. Scotstounhill are holding their annual Balloted Two Bowl Pairs on Saturday and this starts at 2pm.

There are three Friendly matches on this Saturday. Clydebank play Milngavie B.C. at John Knox Street and Radnor Park welcome Vale of Leven to Green Street for their annual friendly match. Dalmuir entertain Rock B.C. at the Stevenson Street Green. The David Syme Seniors’ League is scheduled to commence on Monday, April 21.

SCOTTISH INDOOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION The Gents Scottish Cup Final between Blantyre and Cumbernauld was held on Saturday, April 12 at Stirling IBC. There was nothing to choose between the teams after the opening seven ends or so, but after that Premier Division side Blantyre powered ahead and were not to be caught.

First Division team Cumbernauld did brilliantly to get to the final and aquitted themselves very well, both teams finishing with two winning rinks.

However, Blantyre had a far superior shots total and the final score was Blantyre 93 Cumbernauld 68. The under-35 Scottish Cup was held on Sunday, April 13 at Ayr IBC. West Lothian beat Auchinleck/Galleon (joint team) by an overall score of 69-61 and were presented with the trophy.

Congratulations to young Kieran Ward of Dumbarton IBC who has been selected to play for Scotland’s under-18 Team. Kieran is among 10 young men and ladies who will represent Scotland at the International Series in October 2014. Kieran has been selected to play in the triples and fours.

GLASGOW AND DISTRICT INDOOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION The Glasgow and District Bowling Association Finals were held at Cumbernauld IBC on Sunday, April 13. The Seniors’ finals and Juniors’ finals took place in the morning with the Ladies and Gents’ Finals in the afternoon.

WORLD BOWLS The World Cup Singles Championships are currently taking place at the Warilla Club in New South Wales, Australia.

Stewart Anderson is representing Scotland in the Gents with Caroline Brown competing in the Ladies event.

After Saturday’s round robin matches, both players have an excellent chance of qualifying for the semi-final stages.

Stewart has won seven out of eight games played and lies second in section one behind holder Jeremy Henry of Australia. Section two is headed by USA.

In the Ladies Singles, Caroline lies third in section one, only two points behind New Zealand and Norfolk Islands. Section two joint leaders are Malaysia and Guernsey (Alison Merrian) with Ireland in third place.

The section winners go directly into the semi-finals with the second and third placed bowlers competing for the remaining semi-final places.

Both Ladies and Gents finals are due to be played on Wednesday, April 16.
