Yoker had to come from behind twice, but a brace from Greg Maitland and a late strike by veteran Mark McManus made the home side’s passage into the fourth round safe.

After last week’s goalless draw between the sides, Whe Ho welcomed the Fife side knowing that the winner would play Glenrothes in the next round.

Dundonald were almost handed the opener a few minutes in, Jamie Gilfillan robbed the ball from Yoker centre back Ryan Frew and found himself one-on-one with Craig Winslow, but the striker rolled his effort just wide of the post, much to the relief of the Yoker bench.

Dundonald did find themselves in the lead after 20 minutes however, following some quick passing and lovely build-up play, Ian Lally was put through and slid a dangerous ball into the box, the Yoker defence could not get a foot to the ball and Callum Young was on hand at the back post to finish into an empty net.

Yoker levelled things up a few minutes later though. The home side won a free kick 25 yards from goal, winger Greg Maitland stepped up and fired the ball into the top corner of the Dundonald goal.

Dundonald started the brighter after the break and were awarded with a goal courtesy of Lally. The tricky player cut inside from the right and cracked a shot towards goal from around thirty yards out, the ball flew into Winslow’s top corner as Bluebell edged in front — the shot was unstoppable.

But, just as in the first half, Yoker equalised a few minutes after Dundonald took the lead. The goal came through another free kick by Maitland, this time a low shot, it was a poor strike but goalkeeper James Lennox spilled the ball and it rolled into the net.

Dundonald then began to pile on the pressure — however it would be Yoker who grabbed the winner. Mark McManus picked up the ball on the right wing around the half way line, the midfielder then drove towards goal, cut inside and unleashed a shot — McManus’ strike just crept by Lennox and Yoker had taken the lead for the first time.

The goal sent the Yoker faithful wild; the home side managed to hold on and secured their place in the next round.

Whe Ho are back in league action next week as they travel to take on Greenock Juniors — Yoker will be hoping to take this positive result forward and regain a bit of form in the league.
