Barclay only made the switch to Clydebank from Kilbirnie Ladeside in October but he can’t believe the performances since he has arrived have not brought more fruitful results for Budgie McGhie’s side.

He said: “I’ve only been here four or five weeks now but I just can’t believe we’re in this situation, considering the way we have been playing.

“I’m sure it’s not far from turning round and we’re going to get a big win against somebody. We just need to keep going the way we are going.

“I would be worried if we are getting beat by three or four each week, that would be concerning but there is not much in it all. The encouraging thing is the way we are battling for each other and we’re all in it together.” Clydebank’s season so far was perhaps summed up by an Ian Gold effort in the dying minutes on Saturday bouncing back off the woodwork.

Barclay said: “Hitting the post in the last couple of minutes. That just seems to be how its going for us. I think if there was nobody in that goal and we went up for a header we still would’ve hit the post or something, that just seems to be the way it is just now.” Despite the disappointing league form Barclay is still enjoying his time with Clydebank and couldn’t talk highly enough of the set-up at the club — and in particular the support the team enjoys.

He said: “On Saturday at the end of the game I couldn’t believe it. Just walking off and we’re really gutted at the result but the fans were applauding because they can see that we’re not far off and were putting the effort in.

“That was really encouraging and it just shows you how big a club the Bankies are, it’s great.”
