YOKER boss John McAulay insists there are positives to take from the weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Greenock at Holm Park.

The Whe Ho conceded two early goals and were on the back foot for the majority of the tie.

And despite conceding his side didn’t deserve to win, the Yoker boss was pleased with his players’ effort.

He told SportScene: “I think it was just one of those days where we could have played all day and never scored.

“The Greenock goal keeper was in good form and made a number of saves in the second half so I have to credit him but also our strikers for not giving up.

“I changed the formation in the second half and we seemed to get into the game a lot more in the second period, but as I said, we just couldn’t get on the scoresheet.” A summer of change saw Yoker add to the ranks and McAulay admitted he was particularly impressed by one of his new signings.

He added: “Of course there are still positives to take from the game and I was really pleased to see Darren Jones.

“Darren played very well, we actually signed Darren on the same day as Michael Baillie, and I am sure he will go from strength to strength.” Meanwhile, Yoker are still on the lookout for some new signings, with former Renfrew and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy midfielder Richie Chang on McAulay’s radar.

Chang left ‘Frew following their relegation to the Central League First in the summer and has since been released by Rob Roy at the start of the new campaign.

McAulay revealed: “Richie is someone we are definitely interested in and we are hoping to sort something out during the week.

“He is a player that has always impressed me and I hope we can come to an agreement to get him to come to Yoker.”
