CLYDEBANK and Yoker start their league seasons this weekend and both Budgie McGhie and John McAulay will be hoping their sides can get off to a winning start.

Bankies take on Scottish Cup runners-up Glenafton at Holm Park and McGhie could be forgiven for hoping for an easier tie.

Adam Strachan will return to his former stomping ground as he lines up in the red of the Glens.

The Bankies defence will also have to on their toes when they come up against former Dumbarton and Albion Rovers striker Pat Walker who signed up with Tommy Bryce’s side during the summer months.

Former Queen of the South livewire Dan Orsi will be another for fans of both sides to watch out for as he makes his juniors debut.

The two sides split their league fixtures with goals from Scott Walker and Mark Russell cancelling out Alan Kinney’s first half penalty for Glens.

However, it was roles reversed towards the tail end of the season when Glenafton left Holm Park with all three points with a 3-1 win handing the visitors the win.

Ian Gold’s first half strike handed the Bankies the lead but goals from Kinney and Marlow were enough for a Glenafton win.

Elsewhere, Yoker will travel to take on Andy Frame’s Thorniewood United.

Yoker boss John McAulay has admitted he is unsure what to expect from Saturday’s opponents.

However, if their Sectional League Cup results are anything to go by it won’t be an easy game for the Whe’ Ho.

Thorniewood have qualified from their group and will go into the game having played Port Glasgow in the quarter finals of the tournament on Wednesday night.

Yoker have enjoyed a successful pre season which has seen them rack up a host of victories including a 4-0 win over Ashfield at the weekend.

Having held on to the majority of last season’s squad hopes are high that Yoker could be moving up the table rather than down come the end of the season.
