With well over 160 young players and an army of 35 volunteers helping to run the club, Drumchapel United have comfortably established themselves as one of the biggest community clubs in the west of Scotland — and they are set to expand again.

The club currently run boys youth teams for players born in 1998 through to those born in 2003 while teams for players born in 2003 through to 2008 are also starting soon. United also have an eye on organising an amateur team for season 2014/15 as well as a team for players over the age of 35 for the same season.

The club have spent the last two seasons building themselves up and creating a professional atmosphere for the players in order to help them fulfil their potential, with the founding of the newest teams the latest development in a series of steps forward taken by the club.

The club’s coaches are put through first aid and child protection courses as well as extensive SFA training, while guest speakers also regularly visit their monthly managers meetings.

The players also benefit from the club’s links with a number of organisations including Glasgow Life, Glasgow Sport, Positive Coaching Scotland, SYFA and the SFA, who recognised the club with the Quality Mark award as a result of the standard of training on offer at Drumchapel United.

David Smith, Drumchapel United club secretary, said: “Over the past year there has been dramatic change within the club. Coach and player education is a priority for us.

“Our partner agreements with various organisations strengthen the work we are doing at the club. There has never been a better time to come and play the Drummy way.” The youngsters are also guaranteed the best in training methods thanks to the club’s partnership with Coerver Coaching Scotland.

Coerver are respected worldwide for their coaching practices and work with a number of top clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

As well as working with the players, the Coerver staff work with the Drum coaches four times a year to bring them the latest in coaching techniques from around the world.

Joe Jones, Coerver Coaching Scotland director, explained: “Coerver Partner Club allows us to work with Grassroots Clubs to deliver our methods to players and coaches.

“Coerver is well established throughout the world and we are partnered with some of the biggest clubs and federations in world football.

“Drumchapel United have shown a commitment to player and coach education, Coerver Coaching are delighted to bring this knowledge and support to the club through our flagship Coerver Partner Club initiative.” The newest teams will be the latest to benefit from being part of the Drumchapel United family — a family that looks set to continue to grow and develop over the coming seasons.
