Clydebank 1st XV’s poor away form continued as they made the long trip to Stewartry and came home empty-handed as the hosts bagged a bonus-point 34-10 win.

It was nip and tuck in the opening exchanges as both teams tried to gain the upper hand, with Stewartry enjoying a slight possession advantage.

Clydebank slowly fought back into the match and were denied the opening try from a catch and drive when Joe Moore was adjudged to have made a double movement in the act of scoring.

But the away side did open the scoring after 20 minutes when David Miller knocked over a penalty goal from 25 metres in front of the posts.

Stewartry then pounded the Red and Blacks’ line but the defence held firm until they conceded a penalty in front of the posts that was easily kicked by the Stewartry stand-off to level the game.

He then knocked over a fine kick from 40 metres to take a slender lead at 6-3 and the game was in the balance at half-time.

The opening 20 minutes of the second half proved Clydebank’s undoing.

They allowed Stewartry too much space and didn’t match them physically as they ran in three converted tries.

Clydebank regrouped and fought back and scored a well-worked try down the left when Warden continued his fine scoring streak of a try a game when he powered over in the corner. Miller converted the try from out wide.

Stewartry, though, were in control of the match and finished off the scoring for the day with a converted try to snuff out any chances of a Bank comeback and deservedly win the match 34-10.

The 2nd XV were at home to Hillhead/Jordanhill and were up against it from the start, with only 14 players starting the match against 15.

They more than made up for it and played with adventure and courage in the face of adversity and succumbed in the last 10 minutes, having kept the scoreline to a respectable 24-20 up until that point.

Tries came from James Kelly, the ageless Davie Cairns and a sensational intercept score from Michael Crerand, who ran nearly the full length of the field to dot down for his first senior try.

Hillhead’s extra man told in the last 10 minutes as they scored three tries to win the match 40-20.
