The Week 3 matches in the CDBA Gents League were played on Friday, May 27. Leaders Old Kilpatrick extended their lead at the top of the league to eight points by defeating Victoria Park. Singer moved quietly into second position after a convincing victory against Scotstounhill. Radnor Park had their second 7-7 draw in three matches this season, this time against Yarrow. Clydebank beat Dalmuir by virtue of the bonus points, and in the other match, Yoker had an excellent victory over Albion. The full results from Week 3 were as follows: Yoker 10 Albion 4, Clydebank 8 Dalmuir 6, Old Kilpatrick 12 Victoria Park 2, Radnor Park 7 Yarrow 7, Singer 12 Scotstounhill 2.

The Week 5 matches in the David Syme Senior League were played on Monday, May 23. Clydebank maintained their four-point lead over Radnor Park by virtue of a home win against Dalmuir. Radnor Park had a comfortable victory away at Yarrow, which is always a difficult place to win. Singer jumped back into third spot with a whitewash at Scotstounhill. Yoker beat Albion, and in the other match, Old Kilpatrick had an excellent away win at Victoria Park. Results of the Week 5 league matches: Yoker 4 Albion 0, Clydebank 4 Dalmuir 0, Victoria Park 1 Old Kilpatrick 3, Yarrow 0 Radnor Park 4, Scotstounhill 0 Singer 4.

The Week 6 matches in the David Syme League were due to be played on Monday, May 30, and the fixtures were: Albion v Victoria Park, Dalmuir v Yoker, Old Kilpatrick v Yarrow, Singer v Clydebank, Radnor Park v Scotstounhill. The week 7 matches will be played on Monday, June 6, and are as follows: Clydebank v Albion, Singer v Radnor Park, Yoker v Scotstounhill, Dalmuir v Old Kilpatrick, Victoria Park v Yarrow.

The round 2 matches in the CDBA AJ Campbell Singles competition were reported as follows: Yarrow 21 Yoker 18, Old Kilpatrick 21 Scotstounhill 19, Albion 21 Old Kilpatrick 13, Clydebank 21 Radnor Park 20, Yarrow 21 Victoria Park 7, Dalmuir 21 Yoker 17, Clydebank 21 Singer 5, Old Kilpatrick 21 Yarrow 18. The quarter-final ties were due to be played on Monday, May 30, at neutral venues. More details next week.

DISTRICT NEWS

Some results from recent matches at local district clubs.

Scotstounhill: Invitation Triples played on Sunday, May 15 – Winners Willie Rioch, Joe Currie, George Bruce(Clydebank), runners-up Scott Steele, Stuart Livingstone, Charlie Steele (Scotstounhill); Mixed Pairs played on Sunday, May 21 – Winners Linda Paton and Stuart Livingston. Clydebank: 2 Bowl Pairs on Sunday, May 15 – Winners David Keel & Brian Aitchison, runners-up Stuart Riddell & George Bunting; Mixed Pairs on Saturday, May 21 – Winners Sandra Watt & Joe Currie, runners-up Carol Laird & Mick McDermott.

The annual Brock Cup between the local lodges takes place this Saturday, (June 4) and matches are being played on Singer and Old Kilpatrick. Albion BC have their annual 2 Bowl Pairs commencing at 10am on Saturday and Clydebank have a home friendly against Renfrew.

DUMBARTONSHIRE BOWLING ASSOCIATION

The round 3 matches in the various DBA knockout competitions were played on Tuesday, May 24. The results can be summarised as follows: Junior Singles – Singer B 21 Milngavie A 10, Dalmuir 21 Clydebank 17, Milngavie 21 Singer 12, Clydebank 21 Radnor Park 17; Pairs – Singer 13 Yoker 12 (after extra end), Dalmuir 24 Old Kilpatrick 6; Triples – Clydebank 14 Singer 12, Albion 14 Milngavie 12; Gents’ Fours – Old Kilpatrick 17 Westerton 7, Milngavie 15 Singer 12; Senior Fours – Old Kilpatrick A 13 Claremont 11, Milngavie A 14 Milngavie B 11. The DBA District 3 finals were due to be played at Radnor Park BC on Tuesday, May 31, and the other district final venues are Garelochead, Dumbuck and Milton of Campsie.

BOWLS SCOTLAND

The finals of Bowls Scotland District 11D were played on Thursday, May 26. The results were as follows: Junior Singles – Singer beat Radnor Park; Gents’ Singles – Billy Parker (Clydebank) 21 Grant Sayer (Dalmuir) 18; Pairs – Dalmuir 22 Radnor Park 9; Triples – Clydebank 29 Dalmuir 7; Gents’ Fours – Dumbuck beat Radnor Park; Senior Fours – Radnor Park B 14 Singer B 13; Senior Singles – Allan McLeod (Old Kilpatrick) 21 Allan Nairn (Dalmuir) 11. The Inter District finals will be held this Sunday (June 5) at neutral venues. The ties are as follows: Junior Singles – Argyll v Singer; Gents’ Singles – Argyll v Clydebank; Pairs – Lochgilphead v Dalmuir; Triples – Stronvaar v Clydebank; Gents’ Fours – Argyll v Dumbuck; Senior Fours – Argyll v Radnor Park; Senior Singles – Tarbert v Old Kilpatrick.

The Week 3 matches in the Andrew Hamilton Trophy were played on Saturday, May 28. In the South Section, the Dumbartonshire East team played their first home match of the competition at Campsie BC. This was a fabulous match for the spectators, and in a thrilling finish DBA East won the match by just one shot. The final score was DBA East 115 Wigtownshire 114. The other results from the South Section were: Lanarkshire South 143 Renfrewshire South 98, Ayrshire South 153 Glasgow South 106, Dumfriesshire 142 Stewartry 84. Lanarkshire South and Dumfriesshire are joint top with six points and DBA East are third with two wins out of three. Next week DBA East are back on the road for the short trip over the water to Paisley where they will take on Renfrewshire South at Caledonia BC.

In the West Section, Dumbartonshire West lost their first match of the season in a close encounter against Argyll and Bute at Bogleha’ BC. The final score was Argyll & Bute 118 DBA West 111. Glasgow West had an excellent 123-113 victory at Kelvinside BC against Stirling County West. The West Section is now wide open, with Glasgow West, Ayrshire North and DBA West all leading the table on four points. The fixtures for this Saturday (June 4) are: DBA West v Renfrewshire West (at Dumbarton BC), Ayrshire North v Glasgow West (at Ardrossan BC).
