CLYDEBANK FC, Yoker Athletic and West Dunbartonshire Council are in talks to redevelop Holm Park as a shared community stadium.

Both clubs have shared Yoker's Holm Park since the start of the 2008/2009 season and the redevelopment would continue the ground share agreement for the long term. The plans include a new artificial surface at the ground which will allow the site to be opened up to local sports clubs.

The Bankies had previously been granted £500k council funding towards a new stadium at Faifley Knowes. It is understood that money will now be available for the redevelopment of Holm Park and further funding will be sought.

Although nothing has yet been finalised, talks are at an advanced stage and Clydebank treasurer Bill Abraham believes the project would provide both clubs with long term security.

He said: "The plans in place will hopefully secure the future of both clubs. However we are still talking through some logistical issues.

"The astro grass pitch would allow us to open up the site for other users. We would envisage that this would be a fantastic facility for the community. A lot of the local boys clubs are having to go out with the town to play their home games.

"We'll look to get the park used as much as possible. We'll be looking to improve the infrastructure and the look of the place.

"If we can get over the final hurdles then this will allow both clubs to kick on. Talks will continue, we'll tweek the business plan but we're hopeful that it will be measured in weeks rather than months."

For the project to go ahead, it has to demonstrate the need for the facility to funders. In order to do that a survey has been commissioned which people in the community are being urged to complete.

Clydebank chairman Gordon Robertson said in a statement: "Clydebank FC are currently in talks with Yoker Athletic and West Dunbartonshire Council about the redevelopment of Holm Park as a community stadium.

"While the talks are at a advanced stage, a number of issues need to be settled before a formal agreement is reached.

"If the proposed redevelopment of Holm Park is realised, the ground will provide a permanent home for our club.

"One of the requirements the project has to meet is it must demonstrate to funders that there is a need for such a facility.

"To do that a survey has been commissioned to canvas views of people in the community. Please click on the link below and complete the survey.

"A meeting will be held soon to give our members a full update on the proposals and what they mean for our club.

"As ever, supporters should feel free to approach any of the club’s directors to discuss the issue."
