Clydebank manager Budgie McGhie revealed his players were left disappointed despite winning 3-0 over Maybole at Holm Park on Saturday, as they felt their second-half display was below-par.

Nicky Little and Joel Kasubandi struck early in the first half to put Clydebank 2-0 up before Little doubled his tally in the closing stages.

The win closes the gap on Super League First Division leaders Largs Thistle to just one point following Thistle’s draw with Cumbernauld United.

Despite the convincing scoreline, McGhie admitted some players were unhappy about the second half and he insists those high standards will bode well for Bankies in the title run in.

He said: “Once we settled in on Saturday we were well on top. After we got the two goals we probably should’ve scored more because we played some good football.

“When I went in after the game, before I had even said a word the lads were saying to each other that they were disappointed in their second-half performance.

“A 3-0 win at home is obviously a good result but their attitude after the game tells me a bit about them – that they have high standards for themselves and the team.”

Coming on the back of a 2-0 win over Greenock, it is the first time Clydebank have won consecutive league games since back in September when they begun the league with four straight wins.

McGhie insists that with teams around Clydebank dropping points, there is no better time for a winning run – particularly as he expects his squad to be stretched during the run-in when they will have midweek league games to contend with.

He added: “Although we haven’t got a fixture list yet, one thing you can guarantee is after the Easter break we are going to have a lot of games.

“With midweek games it is going to be a really intense run-in. It is important to get as many points on the board just now before we get to that stage, because we don’t have a huge squad and availability of players becomes a huge issue when the games come like that.”
