Clydebank captain Phil Barclay insists the Bankies must get back to the consistency they showed at the start of the season if they are to win promotion this year, starting in Saturday's home tie with Maybole.

The Bankies started 2016 in the perfect fashion with a 2-0 win over Greenock in their only match since the Christmas break and remain second top of the Super League First Division, three behind table-topping Largs Thistle.

Budgie McGhie's men won their first four league games of the season but haven't won back-to-back in the league since. Barclay is convinced they can end that run on Saturday when they host the league's bottom side, despite Maybole's shock 1-0 win over Largs at the weekend.

He said: "It's a game we should be looking to win comfortably. But they will obviously be on a high after being Largs, we have to go about our business in the right way.

"We need to keep going forward and get back-to-back wins because we've not done that for a while. The game down there (a 4-3 win for Clydebank) was important for us to know that we have that battling quality in our locker, those games can win you leagues."

The midfielder has been frustrated by injuries this season meaning his appearances have been limited. He is confident that is behind him however and with other players returning from injury, Barclay is convinced Clydebank's squad is looking strong again and every player will be kept on their toes as a dip in form could see them out of the side.

He said: "Numbers are creeping back up and the squad is looking strong. This is probably one of the worst starts to a season I have had, so I'm hoping the break I've had over Christmas has helped me and I can stay injury free and up my fitness.

"With the other boys getting their fitness back and with Budgie bringing in one or two signings it keeps everybody sharp because you know if you're not on your game you can be out the team."
