This summer promises to be pivotal for Glasgow in terms of sport and culture, with the Glasgow 2018 games.

This exciting new multi-sport event is bringing together some of the Europe’s leading sports.

The games will further enhance Glasgow’s reputation for world class sporting events, with the potential television audience of up to 1.03 billion across Europe set to watch the action.

Our local area will be benefitting with the new purpose-built arena, located in Knightswood.

Boasting an eight-metre start hill, this BMX track will be the home of the Western Titans BMX Club once the championships are over, providing a lasting legacy for the sport of BMX in our community.

Also, in Scotstoun, Sports Campus Athletes will compete in a purpose built, temporary competition pool located in the campus tennis centre which will be surrounded by a passionate Glasgow audience on three sides. This intimate amphitheatre promises to put on a special show for competitors and fans.

To complement the Games we have launched the Festival 2018 as it’s not just about the sport. This fun-filled cultural programme will run concurrently as part of the sporting action. The heart of the festival will be George Square introducing a carnival atmosphere to the city centre with a diverse programme which is bursting at the seams with free events for all ages, placing Glasgow and Scotland’s renowned creativity in the spotlight.

Locally, we have another exciting summer ahead of us with the highly successful Knightswood Gala day on June 23, LINKES Gala day and Kingsway Health and Wellbeing Harvest Festival, not to mention the Active Seniors Day in the park and a host of other local community led events by DRC Youth Project, DRC Generations, Yoker Resource Centre, Heart of Scotstoun these are just to name a few.

Our community is strong and diverse, the partnership approach taken to ensure all of the above provide a lasting legacy is down to each and every person and organisation.

Thank you for all your continued support
