Held on Sunday, April 12, the event saw participants trek 26 miles to raise funds for children’s charities, stopping off in Clydebank for much-needed refreshments en-route from Glasgow’s Hampden Park to Balloch.

Those undertaking the Half Walk set off from the Play Drome, experiencing all four seasons while donning their tartan outfits.

Bankie Monica Duffy was one of those taking part in the full ten-hour trek. So far, she has raised around £300 for the Tullochan Trust and her employers, Bank of Scotland, have promised to match fund what she raises.

The 39 year old, who completed her third Kiltwalk, told the Post: “It was great, even if it was one of the toughest I have ever done.

“The rain was pouring down for the first two or three hours. By the time we got to Clydebank, the trainers were soggy but then the sun came out.

“Everyone put their ponchos on and the atmosphere was fantastic and it helped carry everyone along.

“I’ll definitely be doing it next year.” Kiltwalkers also donated items to Drumchapel Food Bank and handed over supplies to the organisation.

Oonagh Brown, the foodbank’s development worker, commented: “We were delighted to be invited to this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk where the walkers showed such tremendous generosity.

“The food stuffs collected will make a huge difference to the lives of the families we help.” Charity partners included Yorkhill Children’s Charity, A and M Scotland, Calum’s Cabin and Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (Chas).

Michael Ure, chairman of The Kilwalk, said: “We are incredibly excited the 2015 Kiltwalk season is finally underway and what a way to start.

“All the hard work is worth it when you see our intrepid walkers kilted, booted and ready to take on a hard day’s walking for the sake of Scotland’s children.

“After everything that’s happened in the last few months, this year’s Kiltwalks are even more special and I think the spirit, atmosphere and sense of togetherness of this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk reminded everyone what makes Kiltwalks such incredibly important events in the third sector event calendar.” There are five other Kiltwalk events across Scotland throughout the summer, starting with the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on May 3.
