Stephen Fitzsimmons pleaded guilty to being in possession of the class A drug on February 10.

The 28-year-old appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week to face sentence for having 12.7 grams of the drug stashed in his flat.

Fiscal depute Jeanette McLean told the court that Fitzsimmons, of Whitecrook Street, was arrested following a search of his flat.

Mr Phillips, defending, told the court his client, who is unemployed, has a son and his partner is pregnant with twins.

The defence lawyer added: “He does appreciate the seriousness of this but, given his family circumstances, he is desperate to avoid a custodial sentence.” Sentencing Fitzsimmons to 240 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within nine months, Sheriff Simon Fraser said: “You are running out of chances.

“Given the quantity here you are fortunate to be charged with possession.” Fitzsimmons was also placed under supervision for one year.
