Over the years the 21-year-old Dalmuir girl has won countless dancing titles, performed on stages throughout the world and made it through to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

A former teen beauty queen April also counts X Factor stars Nicholas McDonlad and Sam Callahan as close friends and has enjoyed singing success of her own with her girl group Sweet Injection.

The talented toe-tapper is now hoping to use her experience to encourage some of the town’s youngsters to follow in her footsteps after launching her very own dance classes in Duntocher Village Hall, in the hope that more kids will become stars themselves.

She told the Post: “I wasn’t even two when my mum put me in my first dance school and in my first show I was still in nappies on the stage.

“She would have me in different classes every night of the week, I didn’t play in the streets, I was out singing and dancing instead. Even as a kid I was in panto with the Krankies.

“I loved it — I used to dance up and down the aisle in Asda as my mum was getting the shopping and as I was handing my work in to the teacher at school I was dancing and cartwheeling about the classroom.

“I was working in St Mary’s Primary recently and the kids were saying they wanted to come to my dance school. I was in St Eunan’s and St Peter the Apostle and I had the same response.

“Everybody was saying you need to open a school here and there was so much interest I thought it was probably the best thing for me to do.” Drawing on her own experience of working in the music industry and by teaching modern dance styles, such as hip-hop and break-dancing, April is hoping to motivate a new generation of dancers from Clydebank.

She added: “I’ve done gigs left right and centre with people like JLS so it gives me an advantage.

“It’s a way of expressing yourself and you can tell a story through dance. I’ll get kids that don’t speak a word when they first come in and then you see them up on the stage dancing and it’s amazing seeing them improve.

“There’s a few kids who come to me and after a few nights their parents can’t believe the difference in them compared to when they first came in and wouldn’t speak two words to anyone.” April’s Street Feet Classes for children aged two and over run Saturday 10am to 4pm with adult classes on a Tuesday.
