Councillors decided to rubber-stamp a plan that could see WDC strike a deal with the company that has been behind the regeneration of the town’s waterfront for over a decade.
The urban regeneration company, which is also a registered charity, was set up by WDC and Scottish Enterprise (SE) in 2002 and its assets include the Titan Crane. Since Clydebank Rebuilt was established, WDC has contributed £9.5million to the company while the Scottish Government has spent £18.8m, Scottish Enterprise £17m and the European Regional Development Fund has contributed £6.4m.
However, in March last year a commitment by the council and SE to provide capital and revenue support came to an end, and with cash reserves falling and funding streams drying up Clydebank Rebuilt is no longer sustainable.
