Actor Gregor Fisher took time out from filming his role as the colourful Rab to pick up his copy of last week’s Clydebank Post.

Bankies out for their shopping last Thursday were in for a surprise as they spotted loveable Rab visiting the town.

With loving wife Mary Doll (Elaine C Smith) by his side and best pal Jamesie Cottar (Tony Roper) in tow, the poor man’s philosopher took a stroll around the area.

Recording for the new episode saw the cast filming outside several shops in the town centre as well as the nearby Clydebank Business Park.

And residents were quick to spread the word through social media that the BBC stars were in town.

Fan Russell Todd told the Post: “I had seen all of these people in the area with cameras and things but I didn’t really pay too much attention as to what was happening.

“When I came out the shops I actually walked right past Gregor Fisher thinking ‘I know that guy’s face’.

“But the minute I realised I did an about turn and went back to watch them doing some filming.

“It was incredible to see Rab C walking about Clydebank and there was loads of people watching him in action.

“It is not every day you see your favourite Glaswegian strutting about the town.” After a morning spent at the shopping centre the group moved onto the Clydebank Business Park, where more fans appeared to watch the stars in action.

Van driver Paul Brown admits he was stunned to see the stars during his deliveries.

He said: “I have been watching the programme for years and to see Jamesie and Rab so close is brilliant.

“You never think you are going to literally drive into a TV show and I didn’t even know they were in town. It’s been great to watch them.” It is the second BBC show to come to the area in recent months after Doctor Who star David Tennant was spotted filming ‘What we did on our Holiday’ in nearby Scotstoun.
