A MEMORIAL to commemorate the Clydebank Blitz victims took place at Old Dalnottar Cemetery over the weekend.

The event was held on Saturday, March 16 at 11am and was organised by West Dunbartonshire Council to mark the 83rd anniversary of the air raids conducted by the Luftwaffe between March 13 and March 15, 1941.

Over 200 German bombers attacked the town in an attempt to destroy naval, shipbuilding, and munition targets which were part of Britain's war effort.

Glasgow suffered the most fatalities, but relative to its population, Clydebank was the worst affected as hundreds lost their lives.

Over 4000 homes were also destroyed during the raids.

Martin Docherty-Hughes MP, Marie McNair MSP, councillors Lawrence O'Neill and Karen Conaghan, as well as West Dunbartonshire Provost Douglas McAllister were all in attendance for the event.

Representatives from Clydebank FC and Police Scotland were also present at the memorial.

After the service, there was a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Polish Memorial at Solidarity Plaza, opposite Clydebank Town Hall at 11.30am.
