AN investigation is underway after an emaciated dog was found in Whiteinch.

The tan Staffordshire bull terrier type dog was found on Dumbarton Road on Monday, July 31.

She was handed to a member of the public by a man after they confronted him about the state of the dog, who the Scottish SPCA has described as being in "extremely poor condition".

The dog is now in the care of the SSPCA who are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Gillian Dick, SSPCA inspector, said: "The dog is a tan, adult female Staffordshire bull terrier type dog.

"She is in extremely poor condition and emaciated.

"She was handed to a member of the public by a man after they confronted him about the state of the dog.

"He claimed the dog belonged to his friend.

"We are keen to speak to the person who was looking after the dog and the person who owns her.

"Unfortunately, she is not microchipped so we are unable to trace any owner details.

"If anyone recognises this dog, or has any information about her circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
