A BANKIE whose hobby has seen him photograph some of music’s biggest artists over the last two decades admits he is living the dream.

Will Wilson has taken snaps of the likes of ex-Simple Minds guys Mick McNeil, Derek Forbes and Brian McGee as well as Gewn Steffani and Pete Wylie.

Now, his work is being featured at Clydebank Town Hall as part of a month-long exhibition.

Over the last 20 years, Will has captured a mix of images from scenic landscapes and wildlife to the world of sport and snaps of Clydebank.

But his proudest work is that of picturing his favourite musical talents such as the likes of China Crisis, Republica, Heaven17 and Space with many now issuing Will a behind-the-scenes pass when they are gigging nearby.

During a visit by the Clydebank Post to the museum display, Will said: “Over the years, I’ve got the confidence of the artists themselves, and they give me press passes now.

“They know what I take, and they are very happy with me taking pictures.”

Admitting his favourite artist to picture is 80s icon Gary Numan, Will revealed he has even become friends with the pioneer of electronic music.

“He gives me a personal photo pass every time and I have got to know his band as well,” Will added.

Describing himself as a ‘glorified waiter,’ the floor supervisor at a local restaurant admits his passion for photography originated when he just began taking pictures when he would go to various concerts.

The music-lover started out with what he calls a Fujifilm ‘point and click’ and grew in confidence with his images. He now uses a professional camera for his ‘hobby'.

The proud Clydebank man also enjoys picturing the local area, particularly the town’s landmarks, specifically the Titan Crane.

Will finished: “There are lots of different things you can do (in Clydebank for photography).

“A lot of the stuff I’ve taken is from my garden, plus you have the Titan.

“It is good to do.

“A lot of people have done it but I try and put my own spin on it.”

Will’s exhibition runs from July 7 to August 8 and is located in Gallery Five of the town hall.
