HE is a character typically associated with being miserable with a heart “three sizes too small” but this winter, Clydebank’s answer to the Grinch is hoping to help save Christmas.

The popular movie character has been brought to life by Oli Keenan, who recently mesmerised crowds at Hallowe’en as one of the Sanderson Sisters.

Oli is going door to door in the town bringing his own version of Christmas cheer.

The 25-year-old told the Post that he recently paid a visit to the staff at Specsavers at Clyde Shopping Centre where he caused “Grinchy-chaos”.

Oli said: “It was a good laugh. I got a booking from the manager of Specsavers in Clydebank and just went and caused a bit of Grinchy-chaos.

“The manager mentioned that she’d booked the visit as a wee pick-me-up for the staff but, to be honest, I went in and was just rude to everyone so I don’t know if that helped.

“At this time of year, I do visits as the Grinch on a couple of weekends, so people can book them and I just show up wherever they want me to be.

“It’s a special time of year and I think doing stuff like this can sometimes lift people up. It’s something a bit different and it’s great to see people’s reactions to it.”

The 25-year-old also hopes to visit Queens Quay Care Home and the Royal Hospital for Children to help lift people’s spirits over the festive season.

Oli explained it’s his own unique way of trying to give back to the community at what can be a difficult time for many.

He added: “Kids absolutely love it and so do the adults. It puts a smile on everyone’s face. It’s nice to give back as much as you can, especially at this time of year.

“It’s good to get into and it’s a fun costume to wear. Children are usually surprised when I turn up as their parents haven’t told them who’s coming.

“The reaction can vary it can be exciting but sometimes it can be sheer terror.”

Members of Oli's family also get involved in his visits by joining him wearing Santa hats and handing out chocolates and sweets.

Oli explained how he got into the zone of the character and said: “Eating lots of onions and being miserable. In all seriousness, I channel all of my Christmas stress into him, all that stress of buying presents and organising stuff.

“The minute you put that costume on though you start finding Grinch fur all around the house for the rest of the year.”

The Post previously reported that the Whitecrook resident put on a spooktacular spectacle on Hallowe’en as he and two other actors transformed themselves into the Sanderson Sisters from the popular movie Hocus Pocus.

The event was attended by hundreds of people from Clydebank and beyond.
