AN appeal was recently launched in an effort to bring buttered popcorn back to a Clydebank cinema.

Bankies were horrified to discover that the classic cinema snack had been removed from the menu at the town’s Empire Cinema.

Concerned resident Oli Keenan took to social media on Tuesday to fill others in on the “butter saga”.

The 26-year-old said: "Ladies and gentlemen of Clydebank there is an epidemic going on currently about the lack of butter at Empire Cinema. They have taken the butter away and the people of Clydebank need their butter.

"We are on the brink of disaster here. Luckily for you all, I have a plan to bring our butter back.

"Tell them [Empire Cinema] all the fond memories of their lovely butter and beg for its imminent return.

"They are holding our butter hostage and we the people need to stand up for our rights.

"Join me in the butter revolution."

Oli’s appeal gathered a lot of attention on social media attracting hundreds of comments calling on Empire to bring butter back to Clydebank.

The Post can now exclusively reveal that buttered popcorn will return to Empire Cinema “as soon as possible”.

Mike Wiles, general manager at the Clydebank branch, said: "Due to an ongoing international shortage of paper we are unable to source popcorn tubs that are suitable for use when adding butter -  and as a consequence, we are currently unable to offer the product at Empire Cinemas Clydebank.

"We appreciate that buttered popcorn is a favourite of many of our customers and are working with the suppliers to find a solution as soon as possible.

"Buttered popcorn will be back!"
