A MAN who went into a Clydebank petrol station armed with a knife has been jailed for a total of 21 months.
Michael McElhinney, a prisoner of Low Moss Prison, Bishopbriggs, appeared for sentence at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Wednesday.
The 23-year-old went into West Highway Petrol Station, Great Western Road and in Vanguard Street, carrying a knife. The incident happened on May 3.
He was on bail at the time, an order imposed on him at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on November 22, 2017.
Prosecutor Claire Nicholls told the court how McElhinney, during a journey between Clydebank police office and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Govan, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.
He acted in an aggressive manner and was repeatedly shouting and swearing at two police officers. He again breached a bail order imposed on him on November 22, 2017.
Defence lawyer Gail Campbell said the crime was a “wake-up call” for the young father.
McElhinney was jailed for 18 months on one charge and three months on the other.
The jail term was backdated to May 4.
