A CLYDEBANK pharmacist has won a starring role in a new NHS video aiming to encourage people to make the best use of their local pharmacy for common illnesses.

Rebecca Craig, who works at Duntocher Pharmacy, stars in the "Meet the Experts" film which was produced by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde for patients across West Dunbartonshire.

The video aims to inform people of the types of issues a pharmacist can help with including advice on healthcare, help with medication and help to quit smoking.

Rebecca, 29, said: “I hope the video encourages more patients to actively seek out our services. The benefits are that people can access a healthcare professional at a moment’s notice – and without an appointment.”

Pharmacists can now prevent a trip to the GP by providing prescriptions free of charge for minor ailments such as colds and flu, backaches, coughs and allergies.

Rebecca, who lives in Cardross, added: “The new service in Scotland – Pharmacy First – has given us more scope to treat common ailments without the need to see a GP. I hope people enjoy the video and it help spread the word that we are here to help in a quick, convenient way.”

Duntocher is only one of the many pharmacies located throughout West Dunbartonshire and all provide a private consultation room away from other people for sensitive matters that a patient needs to discuss.

Marie Farrell, NHSGGC’s director for Clyde, said: “Pharmacists play a very important role within the NHS and we regularly encourage people to use their services where appropriate, as part of our ‘Know who to turn to’ campaigns.

“Rebecca is well known and respected in her community and I’m sure her new video will be warmly received.”
