There’s no business like show business – and that music hall saying was proved beyond a doubt when an army of entertainers took the stage at Clydebank Town Hall.

The rafters rocked when the Golden Friendships charity held their talent show before a packed house.

The fun concert had non-stop singalong favourites, with no shortage of patter to keep the music hall atmosphere alive.

The first half of the show got under way when the charity’s founder Jim McLaren and John Brady did a double act as the Karaoke Clowns.

Then, over the course of the afternoon, no less than 40 members of the friendship club got in on the act to keep the entertainment moving along.

Jim told the Post: “It was a great day. In all, 10 single acts and five groups took part and there were several hundred people in the audience.

“Everybody who wanted to sing got the chance to go on stage, either individually or as a member of the group.

“The winner of the talent competition was Stephen Coombe who sang a brilliant version of ‘She Bangs’ by Ricky Martin.

“Everyone was rooting for him and and chanting ‘Stephen, Stephen’.”

Other notables aiming for stardom on the day were the “Grey City Strollers” and the “Golden Friendship Girls”.

Judges were Tom Sheridan, owner of Clydebank Estate and Letting Agents, Davie Hamilton, of Clydebank Private Hire, and Jim Killen, a good friend of the club.

Jim says he is delighted that £500 was raised at the show.

Golden Friendships is an organisation for the elderly, disabled and those with special needs and learning difficulties.

It holds meetings on Wednesday and Thursdays in the 543 club in Dalmuir and has around 150 members.
