A CLYDEBANK man who was found with an air rifle in his home was left with a look of surprise as he was admonished.

Joseph Foylan’s eyes widened after Sheriff John Hamilton made the order at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

Police went to Foylan’s property in Alder Road, Parkhall, on November 21 last year at about 9.15am for another person and a search turned up the weapon in his bedroom.

Foylan, 44, was said to be fully cooperative and stated he “forgot he even had it”, said fiscal depute Martina McGuigan.

She said: “The weapon was surrendered and has since been destroyed.

“He said the weapon belonged to his late father and he had genuinely forgotten it was there.”

Foylan’s defence solicitor - who started the case getting a verbal dressing down by Sheriff John Hamilton for being late – said the rifle was in a cupboard below a pile of clothes.

He added: “It had been in the family before the legislation.”

Sheriff Hamilton then admonished Foylan.
