A DRUMCHAPEL man who repeatedly asked a 12-year-old girl on a train to perform a sex act on him has been put on the sex offenders register for three years.
Dean McGhee, of Drumry Place, previously pleaded guilty to the incident on a train between Westerton and Drumry on April 10, 2017.
At Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week, the 23-year-old’s defence solicitor said a psychologist’s report described him as functioning “at a low level intellectually” and had previously been a victim of crime himself.
McGhee has no previous convictions of a sexual nature, but a report suggested he was at risk of reoffending. His solicitor said he believed he wasn’t a risk.
The lawyer said: “He has been taking alcohol and drugs since he was 12 and this was the first time something like this has happened.
“He did serve a prison sentence before and he was out of trouble for a few years.”
McGhee is currently completing a restriction of liberty order from Glasgow Sheriff Court and Sheriff William Gallacher imposed a new four-month curfew of 7pm to 7am.
He also imposed a community payback order putting McGhee under supervision for three years, pointing out it was an alternative to custody.
Sheriff Gallacher added: “I’m worried that you were able to behave in this way even if you don’t remember doing so.”
