PLANNERS are considering redeveloping the former St Eunan’s Primary grounds in Clydebank.

A planning application recently kicked off after discussions about the use of the area began in detail back in 2016.

The land has been earmarked for a £1.5 million combination of green space, outdoor gym, raised-bed allotments and biodiversity park.

Concerns have been raised about access during the development of the site at Melfort Avenue, but of three public responses so far, all have said they are in favour of the plans.

The 2.07 hectares of land is too contaminated for housing but will be “capped” with a protective barrier to seal in any contaminants indefinitely.

As well as new paths and adult gym equipment, there will be an area for use for Forest School training for pupils. There will also be a chemical toilet, polytunnel and storage sheds for use of the school and community garden.

There will be six spaces for cars in the community growing area but it will be gated and used by keyholders only.

Neighbours have previously expressed concern for ground contamination running into properties along Montrose Street but been given reassurance by council officials.

Responses to the plans said regular street cleaning would be needed.

A one-way system will be considered for Melfort Avenue because of the increased usage and questions raised about evening and weekend restrictions to the space.
