A RADNOR Park church is shining a little bit brighter this Christmas thanks to more than 25 glistening trees put together by the community.

Schools, clubs and local businesses have come out in force to help decorate Radnor Park Church's second annual Christmas tree festival.

The three-day event took place last week and saw a total of 28 trees erected in the Crown Avenue site.

Each tree is given a category chosen by the church and the public get to vote on which tree they feel best embodies their category.

The idea is the brainchild of church worker Elma Stewart, who suggested the idea to the group last year having seen the tradition at a church elsewhere in Scotland.

She told the Post: "When it comes to early evening, it's beautiful.

"It's really not about a competition. It's about bringing the community together and we've had a great response from people throughout the area.

"For example, last year we gave some of the money raised to Alzheimer Scotland as most families are touched by the illness at some point and this year, they came back and designed their own tree."

She added: "We've got young people from the St Peter the Apostle acting as stewards, which has been lovely, and they're getting to chat to people they wouldn't normally and the older people are getting to chat to people they wouldn't normally."

While Mrs Stewart wouldn't admit to her favourite tree in the church, she was excited by the fact so many decided to take part in this year's event.

The tree themes and creators were as follows: advent, R.P Guild; Christmas stockings, Clydebank Housing Association; the Yule log, R&R Baillie; Christmas presents, Whitecrook Primary; the star of Bethlehem, Kilbowie St A's Guild; the memory tree J&E Stewart; Clootie tree, J&E Stewart; papers hats, R.P fundraising team; Christmas candles, W.D Your Community; Christmas cards, May Dalgleish; Christmas Poinsettias, P.J Travel; the 12 days of Christmas, Kilbowie Primary; pantomime, Y Sort It; Mistletoe, Ena Williamson; letters to Santa, St Eunan's Primary; Christmas carols, R.P Kirk Session; candy canes, Bill at Studio 952; Christmas bells, Alzheimer Scotland; Merry Christmas round the world, R.P Choir; Christmas lights, Ian and Margaret Yule; Christmas cake, mince pies and ginger wine, RPMTRA; Santa, R.P O.O.S.C; nativity, St Peter the Apostle High, the holly and ivy, P.J Travel; colours of Christmas, Kilbowie St A's Kirk Session; Christmas crackers, Cunard school; white Christmas, May and Edith; Christmas dinner and the Queen's speech, Netta and Ian.
