COUNCIL housing bosses met with the Scottish Government last week over their plans for new homes in West Dunbartonshire.

The meeting, at the government’s request, heard they were “very happy” with the plans, the housing and communities committee was told.

Peter Barry, strategic lead for housing and employability, said: “There’s a lot of activity right now. The pace of development will increase going forward as we move toward 2021-22.”

So far, 121 new build homes for social rent have been delivered across the area with £14 million in investment.

The 40 new units in Singer Street will be completed in early 2018 and another 345 are targeted for build in the next five years.

Another 120 are expected on the former St Andrew’s School land and 189 at Queens Quay.

Clydebank Housing is working on 44 homes in Radnor Park next to the council’s Singer Street site and Link Housing Association are finishing 30 homes in Dalmuir.

In total, more than £36m in base funding from the Scottish Government is earmarked for delivering new affordable homes in West Dunbartonshire by 2020-21. That total is almost £30m more than had been assumed in December 2016.
