A KNIGHTSWOOD woman has made the final of the 2017 Miss Scotland competition – and she wants to win in memory of her late grandmother.

Kirin Dolan, 22, works as a human resources administrator, and only entered the competition as a “confidence boost”.

But now she’s keen to win the contest for her community and chosen charity, the Beatson.

The former Knightswood Secondary and St Thomas Aquinas pupil said she particularly wanted to honour her gran who died four years ago.

She said: “I’m so happy to now be able to give something back and also to honour my gran – she would’ve loved to have seen me do this.

“I entered for a confidence boost and to meet new people and for a new experience. I would love to win the title though – I think it would be amazing.

“It’s so important for young girls to be confident in themselves in whatever they do. I wasn’t for years and if I was to win the title I’d want to help girls in the same position I was in.”

Each day out earns contestants points leading to the final, with Miss Scotland eventually going on to compete for Miss World later this year. They also have to work to raise as much money and awareness as possible for their chosen charities.

Kirin said: “It’s been an achievement in itself getting this far as loads of girls apply every year.

“It’s been so much fun so far. The other 14 girls are lovely and I’m the only girl from the west end in the competition.

“And I’ve already started my fundraising for the Beatson which is my chosen charity – they do such a fantastic job and a close family member was looked after really well at the Beatson.”

The final takes place on August 24 at the Hilton Doubletree in Glasgow, sponsored by The Catwalk Academy, FakeBake and QTS.

Competition organiser The Catwalk Academy said: “We are looking for an intelligent, compassionate and enthusiastic girl who’ll work hard for her charity.”
