MARION Johnstone has been crowned the Clydebank Post winner of the Greatest Grandparents competition 2017.

The 79-year-old, known as Sheena, has won the star prize of £150 and a VIP night at Mecca Drumchapel – including an evening of free bingo, a free meal for four, plus a box of chocolates and four £5 AWP matchplay – and £50 of Clyde Shopping Centre vouchers.

In her nomination submission Amy said of the Knightswood gran: “She has always been there for me and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren – we all love her so much.

“She is my best friend and has been there for me through everything. We lost my grandad exactly a year ago and the way she has been and how strong she has been has been amazing. She still puts everyone before herself.

“One of her grandchildren, Charlene, has an illness and has spent most of the last seven years in hospital. My granny goes up every week to see her and cheer her up.

“In the Easter holidays she took Charlene’s little boy away to a caravan because Charlene couldn’t make it as she was in intensive care.

“She is amazing and I think she deserves to win. I would love to give her something back. She absolutely loves the bingo. She goes every Tuesday to Mecca, that’s the only wee break she gets for herself.

“We love you granny.”

Henry Ainslie, group editor of Clyde Weekly Press, said: “Congratulations to Sheena on winning the first-ever Post Greatest Grandparents competition.

“She, like every one of our nominees, has a fantastic story behind her, and is fully deserving of this prize.

“Thanks to all who submitted nominations, and look out next year for another chance to enter."
