THE Kingsway Court Health and Wellbeing Centre is once again running its popular summer walking programme.

The walks will take place on Wednesday afternoons and evenings at scenic locations such as Conic Hill, Balloch Country Park, Mugdock Country Park and the Whangie.

The first outing is on June 28 to Pollok Park and some full day trips on Fridays are also planned to Helensburgh, Largs, Aberfoyle, New Lanark and the Burns’ Trail in Alloway.

Martin Coyle, the centre’s community health and development coordinator, said: “The purpose is to get people out for an afternoon or day and to give them a bit of company.

“The main reason we are doing this is to try and connect people through the groups we run. We have been running the programme for about 10 years and we try to get as many people as possible involved.

“The walks are varied and some are more challenging for the more able.”

Individuals of all ages can take part in the walks, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

One walker, who took part in the programme last year, said: “I like the fact that you can talk to various people in the course of a day during the walk, as well as having a little time to just walk quietly and enjoy the scenery.

“The exercise gives you a little lift and listening to others can be informative and lead to further avenues.”

Another walker, who also previously enjoyed taking part, said: “They are interesting and you can tell other people about them, which initiates communication with people you have just met and starts a conversation.”
