A PROJECT to restore a Clydebank park to its former glory has been recognised with two awards from a leading environmental charity.

The Dalmuir Park Restoration Project has been given the honours by Keep Scotland Beautiful to mark the successful renovation and transformation of the park.

The restoration began four years ago in a major project jointly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and West Dunbartonshire Council.

The initiative has now been given an It’s Your Neighbourhood Recognition Award Certificate by Keep Scotland Beautiful in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.

But it was a double celebration for the project as it was also issued with a Certificate of Distinction in recognition of its ongoing success leading up to, during and since the restoration works.

The project included the creation of a ‘growing space’ which allows local groups – including schools, early education centres and classes from West College Scotland – to visit the garden and plant and grow fruit, vegetables and flowers and learn more about gardening.

Gala days, walks and art workshops are also held at the park, while visitors can learn about the area’s history and the park’s heritage features such as the Edwardian fencing, the fountain and floral boat, bandstand area and the clock sculpture.
