IT’S the most wonderful time of the year – and Provost Douglas McAllister’s favourite part is coming up this weekend.

The Clydebank Churches Together annual Christmas Carol Service will be back in Clydebank Town Hall on Sunday, December 11 and has been moved to the afternoon this year to ensure an even bigger crowd can enjoy the music.

The provost said: “I got involved when I became provost and it is one of the highlights of the Christmas season. It used to be one of the local churches would host but we decided to move into the grand hall of the town hall.

“It’s a lovely Christmas afternoon event. We want as many people as possible to come along. It’s the Christmas carols everyone knows and loves but it’s not overly religious. It’s just a lovely Christmas service, then Christmas refreshments in the lesser hall.”

Rev Ishaku Bitrus, convener of Clydebank Churches Together and based normally at Clydebank Central Church in Whitecrook, said he was looking forward to the show.

“Christmas is a time for celebration and a time when everyone rejoices,” he said. “It’s particularly about peace and love and gifts, and Clydebank Churches Together comes together at this time to celebrate and rejoice together.

“We are grateful for the support of the provost. It’s highly appreciated.”

The service will feature the Salvation Army Band, singing from St Stephen’s Primary and much more.

Rev Bitrus added his favourite carol was Child in a Manger, while the Provost prefers O Come All Ye Faithful.

“It reminds me of Christmas,” said the Provost. “All the favourites will all be at the service.

“We are extremely fortunate to have the Salvation Army Band and for them to give up their time. So many people visit them and they give up this Sunday for us and for the people of Clydebank.

“I would love to see the hall full.”

He added: “Clydebank Churches together do great work and I love to support them. I look forward to this event every year.

“It’s not just for the churches, it’s a great Christmas day.”

The Christmas Carol Service starts at 3pm on Clydebank Town Hall on December 11.
