A CLYDEBANK man who broke into a man’s home after he was barred from his gran’s funeral has been jailed for more than a year.

Christopher Clements had pled guilty last month to stealing a set of house and van keys and the van.

The 22-year-old had broken into the property in Millburn Avenue in what his lawyer described as taking “the opportunity to enter the house” upon seeing an open window.

At a previous hearing, the court was told May 6, 2015, was the date of his grandmother’s funeral and Clements had been barred.

He drank heavily as well as taking Valium and broke into the man’s house on his way home.

Neighbours looking out saw someone acting suspiciously in the street and then get into the van by opening the door.

Police forensic teams found a Clements fingerprint in the van, which was seen by neighbours of the targeted property.

Sheriff Simon Pender sentenced Clements to 13 months and two weeks in prison from last Thursday.
