ONE of the police officers who was driven over in a murder bid has been moved out of intensive care, the force confirmed.

Police are continuing their investigation and combing CCTV and interviewing residents about the Sunday night incident that left both officers in hospital.

The female PC, aged 30, has now been moved out of ICU but she remains in hospital along with her male colleague, aged 31. Both are based in Drumchapel.

Police Scotland confirmed the vehicle used was stolen.

Around 11.15pm, two officers were responding to a call in Banner Drive.

While carrying out their enquiries, they stopped a car to speak to the occupants when the car reversed and struck both officers, leaving them seriously injured.

Emergency services responded to the incident and both officers were taken to hospital.

A vehicle matching the description of the one driven at officers was later found damaged by fire in Scotstoun.

Detective Inspector Ian Hylands said: “Our enquiries so far have revealed that a blue Nissan Qashqai was seen at the location around the time of the incident.

"A vehicle matching that description has been found badly damaged by fire in Lennox Gardens, Scotstoun.

"However we have yet to confirm if that is the same vehicle. Despite the damage, forensic officers will carry out a comprehensive examination of the car.

"Everything that can be done to locate the suspects is being done but I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident last night or who has any knowledge of the vehicle or the suspects to contact us.

"Two police officers, in responding to an incident to help protect the public, have been badly injured. Help us find those responsible.”

Brian Docherty, chairman of the Scottish Police Federation said: "Our colleagues were simply doing their damnedest to keep the public safe and faced an unconscionable attack on their lives as a consequence.

"This is a despicable and cowardly act and there can be no doubt that those who drove a vehicle at police officers did so with the intention of taking their life.

"Day and daily police officers put themselves in harm’s way so others don't have to but we should never come to accept that violence is an occupational hazard.

"The SPF is fully supporting the officers, their families and friends at this incredibly difficult time and we will be raising with the Police Service of Scotland why almost 12 hours had passed before we were made aware of this horrific incident."

Anyone with information is asked to call Drumchapel police office on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
